This diagnosis should be strongly considered in any patient with kidney damage and high risk factors for atherosclerotic disease. Renal biopsy can be of diagnostic value and the nephropathologists should pay careful attention to vessels on such biopsies, as the lesions can be focal and can be missed. A R T I C L E I N F O

A Randomized Double Blind Placebo Controlled Trial Examining the Effects of Pentoxifylline on Contrast Induced Nephropathy Reduction after Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in High Risk Candidates
Contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) (known as contrast-induced acute kidney injury) occurs as a result of acute worsening of renal function following a procedure with administration of iodine contrasts agent and remains a substantial concern in clinical practices. The purpose of this study is to investigate the preventive effect of Pentoxifylline supplementation on reduction of CIN occurrence af...

متن کاملPitfall in nephrology: contrast nephropathy has to be differentiated from renal damage due to atheroembolic disease.
INTRODUCTION The topic of contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) has been receiving an enormous amount of interest in recent times; however, this review is not a review of what CIN is, but what it is not. METHODS We will review the main topics demonstrating that the post hoc ergo propter hoc assumption that renal impairment occurring after contrast medium (CM) infusion is necessarily because of i...
متن کاملNon-albuminuric Diabetic Kidney Disease in Diabetic Patients: A Review
Introduction: The constantly increasing incidence of type 2 diabetes, probably due to obesity and sedentary life, has led to the increased incidence of macro- and microvascular diabetic complications such as nephropathy. Despite the prompt efforts to develop effective treatments for diabetes and slow the progression of its complications, it is still reported as the most common cause of chronic ...
متن کاملA case of dabigatran-associated acute renal failure.
Dabigatran is a direct thrombin inhibitor that reduces the risk of systemic embolism in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation. We report a case of an elderly man who developed unexplained rapid decline in renal function 6 weeks after starting dabigatran. A renal biopsy was planned to find out the etiology of acute renal failure, but the patient has significantly prolonged coagulation pa...
